Maîtres fous (II)

Les Italiens Virginia Genta (saxophone) et David Vanzan (batterie) officient sous le nom de Jooklo Duo. A eux deux, ils forment la base de plusieurs formations (Golden Jooklo Age, Neokarma Jooklo Experience...) et ont sorti quantité de disques, notamment sur le fameux label Qbico. Leurs errances les ont amenés à collaborer avec Sonny Simmons, Chris Corsano ou encore Makoto Kawabata de l'Acid Mothers Temple. Leur fire music ressuscite le free jazz le plus exalté des années 1960. Parfois, ils se laisssent perdre dans un brouillard psychédélique évoqué à l'aide d'instruments tribaux et d'incantations mystiques.

En décembre 2008 et janvier 2009, ils ont vécu à Saint-Etienne (France) avec le bassiste Jeremie Sauvage et le batteur Mathieu Tilly du groupe France. Les improvisations entreprises avec ces derniers ont donné naissance au projet Maîtres fous, dont un disque est paru sur le propre label des Italiens, Troglosound. Virginia Genta et David Vanzan ont gentimment accepté de rappeler la genèse de cette rencontre musicale.

"On december 2008, after many travels, we found ourselves in Saint Etienne, France, to share music and life with our friends Mathieu Tilly and Jeremie Sauvage ("France"), and on our first day there we had a long session of wild free improvisation with all kinds of gongs, percussions, flutes and so on. Later that night, during the mixing of this recording, totally random someone played in the house the movie "Les Maitres Fous" but on mute, only images, and we realized that looking at it and hearing the new recording we did was a true complete experience, perfectly fitting. From here we got the name of the newborn band and its first release (Troglosound 003). After watching at the movie with our own soundtrack we couldn't find any other name out of that. We suggest you to try this!"

Début décembre, Neokarma Jooklo Trio donnera quelques concerts en Belgique (dont un à Liège à confirmer) avec un attirail spécial : vielle à roue, harpe fabriquée et saxophone. On se réjouit d'ores et déjà de les revoir...
